Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion
Extraordinary Ministers assist with the distribution of Holy Communion at all Masses on Sundays, Holy Days, and weekdays and are a vital link between the Celebration of the Eucharist and the sick and housebound who are unable to come to Mass. They take Holy Communion to the sick and keep them up to date with the parish bulletin and all the news of the parish. Extraordinary Ministers are invited and appointed by the parish priest. Please tell us if you know of a suitable candidate-especially from among our younger parishioners.

Readers
Readers break open the word of God for us on Sundays and Solemnities. They play a vital part in the Liturgy and we would welcome more readers for all Mass times. Readers are on a Rota, on average reading once a month. Training would be offered to any new volunteer readers.

Altar Servers
They assist the priest at Mass. This is a great opportunity for younger members of the parish to be active in the church community. Training will be given to any boy or girl who has received First Holy Communion, has the consent of his or her parents, and is ready to come regularly.

Music
At some of our Masses, music is provided by our fine pipe organ with a cantor helping to lead the singing. We are always on the look out for additional cantors to help at other Masses. Anyone interested in learning to play the organ or in leading the singing..

The Music Group plays most weeks at 11 am Mass. There is a good variety of musicians within the group-- guitarists, keyboard players, electric guitar players, violinists, tambourine players and, of course, our singers! The group meets most Wednesday nights (7 p.m.) in the church to select and rehearse hymns and music that reflect the theme of the Sunday mass . We all really enjoy singing and playing music together. New members are always welcome

The Children's Liturgy Group
The Children's Liturgy Group is run by parents and other helpers and gives younger children a chance to listen to and understand the readings of the day. It meets regularly on Sunday at 11am mass. The adult leaders are committed to ensuring that the next generation will understand and follow the gospel in their daily lives.
They work in groups of two, and at present lead the children's liturgy group every five weeks or so. Volunteers are always welcome to join in the work and bring fresh ideas to the group.

Children's Catechesis
In St Helen's, we provide parish support for our children as they prepare to receive the Sacraments of Reconciliation, Confirmation and Holy Eucharist. The RE programme undertaken within our Catholic primary schools, is built upon so that the children can understand the link between school, home and parish. There are several classes that run before the actual Sacraments are received, and they tend to be during Lent (for reconciliation, October (for Confirmation) and April/May ( Holy Eucharist). New Catechists are always required and professional training will be provided
