Catechesis

RCIA
The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is the way we describe the journey undertaken by those who would like to be received into the Catholic Church - either through the Sacrament of Baptism or through reception of the other Sacraments if they have already been baptised in another Church. Enquirers are accompanied by a group of ordinary Catholics who gather to share their faith with anyone who is interested in finding out more about the Catholic Faith. As well as those who want to join the Church, this could include those who are married to a Catholic, have children being brought up as Catholics or even people who were baptised as children but not raised as Catholics, who now want to rediscover the gift of their baptism. We welcome all inquirers and try to make them feel part of the parish community right from the start. Together, the members of the group embark on a journey to get to know Christ better and to deepen our relationship with him. We do this through weekly meetings where the inquirer has the opportunity to ask questions and learn about the teachings of Christ and his Church. The R.C.I.A group usually meets on a Thursday evening at 7.30pm from September to May/June. If you would like an opportunity to share your faith or to find out more about the process of joining or rediscovering the Church please speak to Mgr. Paul about the group.

Special Religious Education (SPRED)
The SPRED group comprises members, catechists and friends. The friends are brought by car to fortnightly meetings, the catechists gathering each week in between to prepare for the next meeting. The catechists have a full training programme for this work. Apart from their own sessions, which include regularly a mass and a penitential service where the friends have a wonderful opportunity to experience the joy of sharing in the liturgy, there are SPRED family masses from time to time in the parish. SPRED needs support - more catechists (anyone willing to give a real time commitment and share their faith) and funds to pay for premises, equipment, activity materials and books. Saint Helen's group meets on Mondays in St Helen's Hall.
