Care and Concern
SVDP Society
The Society of St Vincent de Paul is an International Organisation
of Catholic people who practice their faith by helping those in
need on a person to person basis. The conference in St Helens has
eight active members currently who offer assistance to those in
need in a variety of ways - visiting people at home or in hospital,
providing transport to bring people to Mass on a Sunday, organising
outings, helping with the Hospital Mass in the Victoria Hospital
and organising the annual Parish Mass for the Sick. We also offer
practical and financial help to people seeking assistance. Any
parishioners interested in getting involved would be very
welcome.

The Third World Group
put £4,000 into their first project in 1984 and in fifteen years
£49,000 has been passed to SCIAF for various projects in El
Salvador, Ethiopia, Swaziland, Thailand, Peru, India, Ecuador,
Philippines, Brazil and Rwanda, and they have also supported work
by the Jesuits, Xaverians, SVDP and the Society of St James (Fr
Dermot Healy) in Third World countries. Members pray for those in
need, they try to heighten awareness of the needs of the poorer
countries of the world, and put in a lot of hard work to raise
funds to pay for these projects.
